Will this work the same or is it critical to have the v belt ribbed on the bottom style?

if you took a v-belt off, replace it with a v-belt.
a flat belt will not work. almost any hardware,
or parts store will have what you need take
old belt in and they will match it.

The Weissenfels chains are the universal commercial vehicle snow chain for vans, trucks and coaches that gives maximum effectiveness on snow covered roads. As well as being particularly easy fitting, the Weissenfels chains construction guarantees silent driving and excellent road holding. Weissenfels chains range is available in many sizes ranging from Transit sized vehicles & Land Rover sizes to coaches and light and heavy trucks. All Transport T chains are available in both single and twin wheel versions. However singles can also be fitted to the outside wheels of twin wheel applications. The particular chain pattern of the Transport T ensures smooth running, superb sideways grip and excellent vehicle handling. To maximise the life of the chains each Transport T chain is fully reversible so that both surfaces of the chain can be used.

Today on our 2013 Hyundai Elantra well be test fitting the Glacier V-trac Cable Snow Tire Chains, part number pw1930v. Well be test fitting these tire chains on tire size 205/55-16. Now this vehicle is front wheel drive so we will be installing the tire chains on the front set of tires. To begin our test fit, well lay the chains flat out on the ground to undo any kinks or tangles. This will ensure that the tire chain will fit correctly around the tire. Well now drape the tire chain over the tire making sure it is centered and the hooks are facing out so we dont cause any damage to the outer wall of the tire.

Note: Videos are provided as a guide only. Refer to manufacturer installation instructions and specs for complete information.

Overall, in terms of safety, which cars are better American cars or foreign cars?

The first cars had mechanical linkages to brakes, they now have hydraulics and ABS to help stopping. The brakes have changed from the old drums to discs. Split hydraulic systems were brought in in the 1960s, so that if one set goes you still have some braking capability.

Steering has improved with new types of linkages, some of the really old cars had chains to the wheels, like on a boat.

Some old cars only had leaf springs and no shock absorbers, now there are many different types of suspension.

From the 1970s, collapsible steering columns came in, now replaced with airbags.
Progressive crumpling of all panels now provides better occupant safety.
Now you can get Electronic Stability control, to help you get out of trouble in an emergency.

American cars are recognised world wide as being very poor for safety, only marginally better than Chinese, the worlds worst. The best are definitely European, (Mercedes, Volvo, Saab, Audi) followed by Japan, Toyota, Subaru, Honda) and Australia, (Ford, Holden, Toyota).
